INTERGEN - OUR CLASSES FOR FAMILIES AND ADULTS TO COME TOGETHER TO SHARE DANCE
In June 2018, we were lucky enough to receive a grant from Active Essex to pilot our idea of bringing together our family groups and older adults to share a dance space. Like all our health programmes, the aim of this was for our participants to make new friends and strengthen relationships, as well as being active; and of course for us creative through dance movement. It was incredibly energetic, moving and encouraged lots of laughter. We were offered further support by Chelmsford CVS to continue these sessions in Chelmsford for 9 months.
These FREE classes were held once a month at Coates Lodge CHP Housing Scheme, Chelmsford, up until July 2019. Participants explored movement and dance, encouraging families and older adults to move together to explore creativity and group expression. As well as dancing as a group, participants developed a memory for movement and built their own strength, balance, coordination to encourage healthy physical development and preservation of the muscles and joints.
After each session, we had 30 minutes of social time along with refreshments and healthy snacks.
