“Reminiscence in Practice – exploring themes and the performance of memory” with Age Exchange April 19th 2024 10.30am – 3.30pm This Age Exchange training session will include: -Exploring reminiscence themes and triggers -Understanding best practice in reminiscence -The role of improvisation in reminiscence work -The role of the senses in reminiscence work Examples of Age Exchange’s work Access to and experience of practical activities used by Age Exchange The training will be largely participatory, with discussion, small group activities and practical exercises. About your trainer: David Savill (Artistic Director, Age Exchange) David Savill is the Artistic Director of the British charity Age Exchange, specialising in Reminiscence practice with older people in care and community settings. His passion and expertise is in the performance of memory. David joined Age Exchange in 1998 and has 25 years’ experience of creating and directing reminiscence arts programmes that enable individuals, and communities to share life experience through visual and performing arts. He has worked alongside many arts professionals, and partner organisations in arts, heritage and education. Amongst other projects he created: “RADIQL”, Age Exchange’s innovative Reminiscence Arts in Dementia Care intervention, “Combat Stress 100”, the landmark centenary programme for Britian’s oldest military mental health charity, and “Meeting in No Man’s Land” the highly acclaimed Anglo German First World War Centenary project and documentary. His work with older people and with intergenerational groups has resulted in many theatre productions, exhibitions and documentary film. David has lectured and presented on the work of Age Exchange at Universities and drama schools across the UK. He has worked on projects, productions, and presented at conferences in Germany, Poland, Ireland, Australia, Canada and the USA.
