Connect & Dance

New Adventures, photo by Roswitha Chesher 2024

Don't get bored in the same old class come and join DNA's adult classes and try various styles of dance each block.

Find a connection. Feel supported. Dance together.

These sessions are a blend of gentle movement, connection, and community with time to chat and reflect over a cuppa afterwards.

Each block of 5 weeks offers a new style or a new guest artist who will work with us to bring their own flavour to the sessions. No block will be the same!

Classes take place weekly on Wednesdays.

Block 6 (4 weeks) Starting Wednesday 04 June BOOK NOW!

Salsa & Latin Vibes with Guest Artist Katy Ermel

In this block, discover the joy, energy, and connection of Salsa and Latin dance in our welcoming and uplifting classes designed especially for women aged 50+.

Each session is set to vibrant, feel-good music and focuses on easy-to-follow rhythmic footwork and expressive yet accessible styling. Whether you’re completely new to dance or returning after a break, you’ll be supported every step of the way in a warm, friendly environment where you can learn at your own pace.

Our classes are inclusive and adaptable, with sensitivity to individual needs, including those with visual or hearing impairments. Everyone is encouraged to feel comfortable, confident, and fully involved.

Over four weeks, you’ll gradually build a fun and achievable Salsa/Latin routine—developing your timing, coordination, and confidence as you go. Along the way, there are plenty of opportunities to explore your own style, enjoy the music, and express yourself creatively in a relaxed and supportive setting.

The focus is on enjoyment, confidence, and gentle movement—not perfection.

No partner is needed, making this a social experience where you can meet others, have fun, and feel great.

Come along, try something new, and dance your way to feeling great with a like-minded community.

UPCOMING: Block 7 (4 weeks - 5 sessions) Starting Wednesday 01 July

Creative Contemporary with Guest Artist, Sam Grief - New Adventure's Overture Graduate

We’re excited to welcome guest artist Sam Grief to Connect & Dance as part of her ongoing creative development with New Adventures’s Overture cohort — a national programme supporting emerging dance artists to deepen and expand their practice.

Sam’s session will invite you into a contemporary movement space rooted in curiosity, expression, and personal interpretation. Blending guided improvisation with choreographic tasks, you’ll be encouraged to explore how your body moves, responds, and communicates — without pressure to “get it right. Sam’s approach is focused on dancing for the sheer joy of it and helping you find movement that works for you.

Expect a class that feels open, thoughtful, and creatively energising. Sam creates space for dancers to connect with themselves, the music, and each other, while gently developing confidence, fluidity, and presence.

Come as you are, move in your own way, and discover something new.

There is the option to take part in a short (around 4 minutes long) group public performance using the movements you will create over the 4 weeks. This will be showcased as a “curtain raiser” just before a Door Steps Duet performance by New Adventures Dance Company on the afternoon of Thursday, 23 July.

We will also be running a short rehearsal on the afternoon of 23 July for anyone who would like to participate. You don’t need to commit to this in advance. You are welcome to decide as you go along if you’d like to take part, right up until the day itself.

Block 5 Contemporary and Soundscaping with Guest Artist Steph Townsend (5 weeks)

This block offers an introduction to creative contemporary dance, combining expressive movement with immersive soundscaping to inspire exploration, connection and confidence.

There is something quietly powerful about moving to sound that is being shaped in the moment. Not just following music, but responding to it. Listening with your whole body.

Steph Townsend brings a contemporary, creative approach to Connect & Dance, blending expressive movement with immersive soundscaping to create sessions that feel alive, atmospheric and deeply engaging.

These sessions are designed especially for older adults and are fully adaptable, with both seated and standing options available. You do not need dance experience. You simply need curiosity.

Across each session, participants will:

  • Explore contemporary movement through guided improvisation

  • Respond to layered soundscapes that spark imagination and memory

  • Gently build coordination, mobility and balance

  • Develop confidence in personal expression

  • Connect with others through shared creative experiences

Steph’s approach is thoughtful and inclusive. The sound becomes a partner in the room, shaping mood, pace and energy. Sometimes playful. Sometimes reflective. Always supportive.

This is not about perfect steps or performance. It is about creativity, connection and the joy of discovering new ways to move at any age.

Block 4 (5 weeks)

Bollywood / Bhangra with Guest Artist Gurpreet Tumber

This block is offering an introduction to the Indian party-dance styles of Bollywood and Bhangra.

In February we're joined by guest artist, Gurpreet Tumber, who will gently introduce Bollywood dance style in a way that's comfortable, steady and completely adaptable to you. You don't need any dance experience - many of our participants once said "I'm not a dancer" too. This is your chance to move at your own pace, meet others in the community, enjoy some creativity and feel good in your body! No experience needed

Block 3 (5 weeks)

Contemporary with Guest Artist Bobbie Gargrave

This block is inspired by a poem filled with village life, companionship, and the people who shape our days a perfect starting point for connection and friendships.
