Living and loving with Parkinson's

New Adventures, photo by Roswitha Chesher 2024

Dance has shown to be very beneficial for people living with Parkinson's; to manage or potentially slow the progression of physical symptoms and to help other associated symptoms such as mental health.

DNA's Dancing Pathways Programme

Dance, movement and connection – supporting you to move in a way that works for you.

Dancing Pathways is our specialist dance and movement programme for people living with Parkinson’s and other neurological conditions, as well as those living with heart or circulatory conditions. Loved ones, carers and companions are warmly welcomed to join in and experience the joy of dancing together. Alternatively, if the participant is comfortable attending independently and does not require additional support, loved ones are welcome to leave during the session and return at the end.

Our sessions focus on what you can do. Whether you choose to dance seated, standing or a combination of both, our experienced dance artists will support you to participate in a way that feels right for you.

What to expect

Each Dancing Pathways session includes one hour of dancing followed by 30 minutes of social time over a cuppa and biscuit.

Classes begin with a guided warm-up before moving into a variety of seated and standing dance exercises. Through music and movement, we explore mobility, coordination, rhythm, creativity, use of voice and memory.

Our music spans the decades, and choreography is often developed together with our dancers, giving everyone the opportunity to contribute creatively and build on movement from week to week.

There is always a support artist in the room offering seated adaptations alongside our lead dance artist, so you can choose the movement that works best for you.

We finish every class with a gentle cool-down before coming together for refreshments, conversation and connection.

No previous dance experience is needed – just come as you are.
