Class description

Dancing Pathways is Dance Network Association's specialist creative health programme for people living with Parkinson's, stroke and other neurological, heart and circulatory conditions. Through evidence-informed dance and creative movement, the programme supports participants to improve mobility, balance, coordination, strength and confidence while enhancing emotional wellbeing and social connection. Designed to be inclusive and accessible, each session combines seated and standing movement, enabling people of all abilities to participate at their own pace. Led by experienced creative practitioners and supported by specialist support artists, sessions include gentle warm-ups, joint mobilisation, voice activation, rhythm, coordination and creative movement activities that stimulate both the body and the brain. Music from across the decades creates an uplifting and engaging atmosphere, while collaborative choreography and creative tasks encourage memory, cognitive stimulation and self-expression. More than just a dance class, Dancing Pathways provides a welcoming community where participants and their companions can build friendships, share experiences and support one another. Each one-hour session is followed by an informal social gathering over refreshments, creating valuable opportunities for conversation, peer support and connection. Grounded in the principles of Creative Health, Dancing Pathways empowers people to remain active, independent and connected, demonstrating how dance can complement healthcare by improving quality of life and helping people live well with long-term health conditions.
