Leading from the heart: Feminist leadership in action

For generations, traditional leadership has been shaped by hierarchy, control, and male dominance—a model that often prioritises power over people and productivity over well-being. But leadership doesn’t have to look like that.

Over the past decade, I have embraced my journey as a feminist leader—one who throws away the rule book, disengages from rigid hierarchies, amplifies the voices of those who have been silenced or oppressed (which I have personally felt too) and truly lead from the heart.

But let’s be clear: feminist leadership is not about hating men. It’s not about exclusion. It’s about a different way of leading—one rooted in collaboration, equity, and shared power rather than control. It’s about working together to create a space where everyone—regardless of gender—can thrive.

I am a strong woman, surrounded by a team of incredible, strong women who make it possible for me to lead, serve our communities, and create real impact. Leadership isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about valuing the strengths of others, recognising where they excel, and lifting each other. And today, on International Women’s Day 2025, I want to celebrate them for everything they do! I have personal thanks to my direct team Karen, Fi, Steph and Katie, my confidants and DNA board members Elsa, Lyann and Frances, Jamie Pei and the Solo Business Club of Women. All these women and many others are the people cheering me on and lifting me up and today I wanted to voice those that mean so much.

Rest well, be productive and thrive

One of the biggest shifts in leadership that I believe in is rejecting the outdated mindset that success comes only from working harder. I believe that working hard and playing hard are a thing of the past, and no one wins an award for the most burnout. It's about working productively and resting well. True productivity doesn’t come from burnout; it comes from balance.

At DNA, we don’t just promote well-being for others—we practice it ourselves. It’s not a buzzword or a box to tick; it’s a fundamental part of how we work, grow, and thrive.

For us, well-being means:

  • Flexible working that supports life’s responsibilities

  • Intentional breaks to recharge and sustain creativity

  • A positive, collaborative environment where every team member is valued and empowered

By prioritising my own work-life balance, I hope my team feels encouraged to do the same. Leadership isn’t about demanding more—it’s about creating an environment where people can do their best work while taking care of themselves as I hope that this message resonates and sprinkles a thought for all those reading.

A call to action

Feminist leadership is about dismantling outdated structures and replacing them with compassion, collaboration, and courage. It’s about lifting others as we rise, making room at the table, and ensuring that everyone—regardless of gender, background, or position—has the chance to thrive.

So today, on International Women’s Day, I celebrate the incredible women I work with and the future we are building together. Feminist leadership isn’t just a belief—it’s a way of working, leading, and creating change.

Here’s to strong women, bold leadership, and a world where well-being is a priority, not a privilege.
